Employer Responsibilities :: Apprentice Responsibilities
The employer and the apprentice shall enter into a training agreement as approved by the Jewellery Industry Registration Board.
The agreement provides for the apprentice to be employed by the employer for the period of the apprenticeship.
Employer Responsibilities
An employer will be responsible for:
- Training and instructing or providing for the apprentice to be trained and instructed to become a work competent Tradesman in the Industry in accordance with the provisions of these training requirements, the approved Training Manual and schedule to this document.
- Providing to the apprentice the approved Training Record Book, which shall become the property of the apprentice on completion of the apprenticeship.
- Inspecting and signing the apprentice's training record book at regular intervals as may be specified by the Jewellery Industry Registration Board.
- Releasing an apprentice to attend off-job-training courses or examination.
- Ensuring that the training agreement is completed by the employer and the apprentice and a copy forwarded to the Jewellery Industry Registration Board within 28 days of signing.
- Applying to the Jewellery Industry Registration Board for the issuing of 'Trade Certification as soon as the apprentice completes the training requirements set out in this document.
- Notifying the Jewellery Industry Registration Board of a request to transfer or the termination of an apprenticeship training agreement.

Apprentice Responsibilities
An apprentice will be responsible for:
- Taking all reasonable steps to acquire the knowledge and skills of the industry.
- Successfully completing all off-job courses as required by the training program.
- Keeping an up-to-date Training Record Book in the form approved by the industry and making it available on request to the employer and other industry-authorised people.
